What a GREAT first week! This week is bound to be even better!
We will begin the week by reading the book Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes. In this story a little mouse has been given a very long name that her parents think is just right for her. When she goes to school, her feelings are hurt by her friends who think that her name is too long. This book will lead us into a discussion about the letters in our name and using nice words.
This week we will finish working on our first section of letter recognition and letter sounds. Then we will begin our first math portion. If you would like to work with your child at home you can begin to work on counting with a 1:1 correspondence up to the number 5 (distinguishing that each object can only be counted once). When that skill has been mastered we will work to identify and match the numerals to sets of objects (ex. counting a set of 5 and finding the correct numeral).
This week we will also be sending home a Scholastic book order form. By ordering books through Scholastic with our classroom code you can help to build our library! Please note that I will only be accepting orders made online. The code for ordering is: N98CD
I am going to begin working with the kiddos on writing names. I am in need of LOTS of dry erase markers. If you happen to see a great deal while out this week... we would truly appreciate it!
