I am Thankful for...

Happy Monday!

I hope you all had a great weekend! This week we will be begin discussing Thanksgiving and being Thankful. Today we sorted turkey feathers into color groups. We will also work with number identification by counting the dots on the turkey feather and placing on the correct numeral feather. Your child will also work to put the correct number of clothespins (feathers) on the turkey by identifying the numeral. On Friday we will be going on a turkey, letter hunt around the building!

This week (on Thursday) we will be doing our second social lesson: "Can You Be Polite?". We will chart our feelings and what makes us feel this way. We will then read the book Manners by Aliki and discuss ways to be polite.

We will also be discussing what we are thankful for and make a classroom "Thankful Tree". Try talking with your children about what your family is thankful for. :)

Important Information:
--We will finish this week's data collection of patterning on Wednesday and begin with round two of letter identification.
--Butter Braids are here for our Relay for Life Team! You should be receiving an order form and more information this week. Money and orders are due by Dec. 1st and will be delivered on Dec. 15th. These are great treats for the holidays!
--Fall Parties will be held on Thursday and Friday this week! We still need a volunteer for our Friday AM party... if you would like to volunteer please e-mail Amy Huang at amyk6282@hotmail.com.
--Don't forget that we are also holding a Toy Drive for military families. We are accepting new, packaged toys for ages 0-12. Let's help make a child's holiday a little brighter! :)

Making a Connection:
One way that we encourage manners is by having the children raise their hands and ask to be excused from the table.
We also encourage independence at this time. The kiddos must TRY to open their snack/milk before asking for help. They also take care of their own trash. We tell them to wrap it up like a "present" and carefully throw it in the trash. We have seen LOTS of improvement on this and the kids really love it when they succeed at opening snack on their own! :)
