Pumpkins

Pumpkins: Big, Round, Bumpy, Heavy

This week we will be doing LOTS of activities with pumpkins. We will practice our location words by "reading" a card to our small group. The group will follow the direction and put the pumpkin where it needs to be (ie. head, toes, nose, ears, etc.). We will also continue working on taking turns by playing a pumpkin shape game. With this game your child will have to tell me the shape they have and the color attribute to go with it (ex. green triangle). These are GREAT skills for our preschoolers to be working on! :) As a large group we will do a Pumpkin Investigation. We will discuss describing words, the pumpkin's height, how many seeds we think are in there, will it sink or float, and guess how much it weighs. We will also talk about the life cycle of a pumpkin and put the pictures in order from 1 to 6.

Connecting at Home:
This week we will start talking about rhyming words. We will be practicing with words that rhyme with numbers 1-6. This is something fun and works on number recognition also! :)
1 - SUN
2 - SHOE
3 - TREE
4 - DOOR
5 - HIVE
6 - BRICKS

Also, with the colder weather (quickly) approaching, it is very helpful if children are being exposed to dressing themselves! We love to help and teach them all about putting their own jackets on... but with 20 in one class it is quite difficult. Please be working on this at home. We have been using the ol' trick with the jacket on the floor, hood by your feet, bend over and put your arms in, then flip it over your head like "Superman". Once they get the hang of it, they LOVE it! Also, try zipping just the first part of the jacket and allowing them to zip the rest.... these are wonderful fine motor skills!

I am having so much fun with these kiddos! It is so exciting to look back at the beginning of school and see how far they have come in such a short time! YAY for progress! :) As always, if you have any questions feel free to e-mail me!
